Coaches

Rick Alexander brings a wealth of hockey experience to RD Hockey and the Jr Hitmen Hockey Program. His experience is extensive: after playing Junior and University level hockey, he played and coached professionally in Europe for over 25 years. As an educator, Rick ran his own hockey schools in Germany and Switzerland and since 2002, Rick has specialized in Elite Hockey Development for various age groups in the Calgary area.

Rick Alexander’s hockey career began in Calgary playing for the Calgary Buffaloes, Calgary Cowboys of the AJHL, and the University of Calgary Dinos. In 1976, Rick left to play for Essen in the German Elite League, but it was multiple knee injuries that forced Rick to leave the ice and find a home behind the bench as a both a Professional Hockey Coach and General Manager for 20+ years.

In April 2003, after being back a year in Calgary, a group of 12 hockey players, ages 11 and 12, were in desperate need of a hockey coach. Rick went from coaching professionals to coaching young minor hockey players. Through his abilities as a coach and mentor, Rick Alexander has seen many of his players go on to professional careers in hockey.
